Vice President Kamala Harris visited the Los Angeles neighborhood of Monterey Park on Wednesday, comforting members of the community in the wake of the 39th U.S.-based mass shooting to occur in 2023 alone. Her visit coincided with the fourth vigil held outside the site of the massacre, Star Ballroom Dance Studio. Mourners have repeatedly gathered this week to honor the lives of the 11 people murdered by a mass shooter and to grieve that such a tragedy was even allowed to happen in the first place.
“All of us in this room and in our country understand this violence must stop,” Harris said on Sunday during a press appearance in Florida. “And President Biden and I and our administration will continue to provide full support to the local authorities as we learn more.”
